Xi Jinping's report [to the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China] for the first time puts forward "Four Greats": great struggle, great project, great cause and great dream. In expounding, Xi Jinping points out: The path of socialism with Chinese characteristics is the only path to socialist modernisation and a better life for the people. The theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics is the right theory to guide the Party and people to realise national rejuvenation.The system of socialism with Chinese characteristics provides the fundamental institutional guarantee for progress and development in contemporary China. The culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics is a powerful source of strength that inspires all members of the Party and the people of all ethnic groups in China."Our whole Party must strengthen our confidence in the path, theory, system and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics. We must neither retrace our steps to the rigidity and isolation of the past, nor take the wrong turn by changing our nature and abandoning our system. We must maintain our political orientation, do the solid good work that sees our country thrive, and continue to uphold and develop socialism with Chinese characteristics."
As a matter of fact, to achieve the "Four Greats": making the great dream come true, engaging in the great struggle, constructing the great project and promoting the great cause, it requires a great country, a great people, a great party and a great leader. Without the latter "Four Greats", the former "Four Greats" can hardly be achieved. Given today's socialist China and the 1.3 billion Chinese people, the Communist Party of China with Xi Jinping as its core is bound to lead the whole nation to jointly realise such a most fundamental great dream as to build the country into a modern powerful country of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
Xi Jinping's report to the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China puts forward 14 basic policy principles to strive for the great success of socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era. The 12th of these policy principles is "Upholding the principle of "one country, two systems" and promoting national reunification". Xi Jinping points out: To maintain long term prosperity and stability in Hong Kong and Macau, it is imperative to fully and faithfully implement the principles of "one country, two systems", "the people of Hong Kong governing Hong Kong", "the people of Macau governing Macau" and a high degree of autonomy, to strictly follow the Constitution and Basic Laws in all pursuits, and to improve institutions and mechanisms relating to the implementation of the Basic Laws. The Central Government will continue supporting the administration in accordance with the law by the two SAR Governments and Chief Executives."We will remain committed to the policy of the Hong Kong people to govern Hong Kong, Macau people to govern Macau, with patriots playing the principal role… and foster patriotism and stronger sense of national identity among people in Hong Kong and Macau.With this, our compatriots in Hong Kong and Macau will share both responsibility of national rejuvenation and the pride of a strong and prosperous China."
Hong Kong people concern themselves with the convention of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and even more eagerly expect the Motherland to complete building itself into a moderately prosperous society, to enter a new era for socialism with Chinese characteristics and achieve the goals of building itself into a modern and strong country in two 15-year stages – as early as possible!
