  Curb (verb)

  ●To control or limit something that is not wanted.

(遏制,制止)

  Examples:  

  1.The government should act to curb tax evasion.  

  2.The police are trying to curb under-age drinking.

  fond dream/hope/wish etc. (phrase)

  ●Something that you very much want to happen.

(黃粱美夢,一廂情願的想法)

  Examples:  

  1.He had fond dreams of living on Saturn.  

  2.It was their fondest hope that the children would do well at school.

  Get off/go Scot-free (idiom)

  ●To escape punishment for a crime or wrongdoing; to be acquitted of charges for a crime.

(逍遙法外,未受懲罰)

  Examples:  

  1.The thief got off scot-free.  

  2.My younger sister caused endless trouble as a child, but because she was the baby of the house, she usually went scot-free.

  Crack down (on sb/sth) (phrasal verb)

  ●To start dealing with bad or illegal behaviour in a more severe way.(打擊,處罰,鎮壓)

  Examples:  

  1.The library is cracking down on people who lose their books.  

  2.The police cracked down on the street gangs. They cracked down once last year too.

  Loophole (noun)

  ●Something that has been left out of a law or legal document that people can use to avoid obeying it.

  (漏洞)

  Examples:  

  1.The company employed lawyers to find loopholes in environmental protection laws.  

  2.He exploited a legal loophole in order to avoid paying child support.
