A thing of the past (idiom)

●Something that no longer happens or exists.

  (過去的事情,明日黃花)

Examples:  

1.Giving up your seat to an older person seems to be a thing of the past.  

2.Job security is a thing of the past.

Fiend (noun)

●A person who is very enthusiastic about something; a person that causes mischief or annoyance.(…狂,…成癖者,邪魔)

Examples:  

1.Those children are little fiends.  

2.Two of her distant older brothers were in Japanese government service but she considered herself an American "jazz fiend."

Rank among sth (phrasal verb)

●To be included in a particular group.

(躋身於…,屬於…之列)

Examples:  

1.He ranks among the best pupils of his grade In my opinion.  

2.J. K. Rowling ranks among the most widely known of contemporary writers.

Make a monkey/fool (out) of sb (idiom)

●To do something that makes someone, esp. yourself, seem ridiculous.(愚弄,嘲弄,出洋相)

Examples:  

1.Are you trying to make a monkey out of me?  

2.John made a monkey out of himself while trying to make a fool out of Jim.

Deter sb/sth from (doing) sth (phrasal verb)

●To prevent or discourage someone or a group from doing something.(阻止,使…躊躇不前)

Examples:  

1.High prices are deterring many young people from buying houses.

2.They were not deterred from their foolish ways.
