在每天的廣東話交談當中，我們會用上大量沒有意思的助語詞，例如，「呢、囉、嘞、啦」。

　　這些助語詞單字雖然沒有意思，但能夠在適當的時候加強整個句子或短句的語氣。

　　可是，如果放這些助語詞在英語句式當中便會很搞笑，也有機會令對方聽不明白。

　　Miss Carol跟外籍朋友在茶餐廳吃飯，他點凍咖啡，侍應送來飲品的時候一言不發，友人便詢問這是什麼飲品，侍應對他說，「Ice coffee囉，你嘅ice coffee呀。」友人當然明白這是他的凍咖啡，之後感覺奇怪，詢問為什麼會有「囉、呀」這個尾音。

　　這個在茶餐廳的用法還可以接受，如果是比較學術及正式的（academic or formal）句子便可能會有麻煩。曾經有一位學生就「安樂死」（Euthanasia/Mercy Killing）這個辯題在考口試的時候這樣說，有一點摸不着頭腦。

　　Euthanasia minimizes extreme human suffering 吖嘛。Nobody係deser（ves） 呼unnecessary pain that against their will喎。

　　I think everyone should respect each other's autonomy啫，each patient shall determine which medical intervention in their own bodies喎。I am talking about ethically justified囉。

　　起初還以為學生純粹「搞氣氛」，及後發現整個辯論也是這樣子，充滿着不同的廣東話助語詞。雖然正反雙方也是中國學生，有觀察到有學生聽不明白。

　　及後跟這個學生討論有關助語詞的問題，她解釋因為想強調某一些論點，她也明白這是自己說英語的習慣。

　　在辯論中如果我們需要強調論點及某一些字眼，其實有很多方法；例如：

　　可以加上適當的副詞

　　Adverbs of manner: evidently, importantly, quickly, significantly, slowly, sustainably

　　情態動詞

　　Modal verbs: can, could, might, may, will, would.

　　甚至Prepositional phrase/Noun phrase,

　　短句或是成語（idiomatic expressions or idioms）

　　例如：Not to mention the fact that...　　/ Not only that but also... / To be more specific, ... / I want to emphasis/highlight.../ In light of what was said earlier...

　　例如，就以上充滿着助語詞單字的句子可以更改成：

　　The crucial point is that euthanasia can evidently minimise extreme suffering. Nobody deserves unbearable　　suffering, excruciating emotional and physical pain.

　　In addition, patient autonomy shall be widely advocated.　　Medical intervention shall be considered as an informed consent.

　　In the end, what it all boils down to is ethnical justifications.

　　當然上下文還有很多資料可以加插，重點是以適當的語法來提升在辯論賽事的贏面。

　　正如印度國父甘地（Mohandas Karamchangd Gandhi）所言："Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever."

　　活在當下，學無止境。

　　「助語詞真係咁好玩咩，不如一齊學英文啦！」
