Linger (verb)

●To last or continue for a long time.

  (停留,徘徊不去)

Examples:  

1.The tradition seems to linger on.  

2.His face lingered in her memory.

For the sake of sb/sth;

for sb's/sth's sake (idiom)

●For the benefit, advantage, or purpose of something or somebody.(為了…的緣故)

Examples:  

1.You can do it. Please, for my sake.  

2.She called on us merely for the sake of courtesy.

Across-the-board(adj.)

●Affecting everyone or everything within an organization, system, or society.

(全面的,包括所有的,一刀切的)

Examples:  

1.The across-the-board pay increase means a raise for all employees.  

2.There needs to be an across-the-board, consistent defense of the constitutional separation of powers.

Nothing comes from nothing(proverb)

●Everything has its origins in something.

(凡事必有因)

Examples:  

1.I'm not surprised you did so poorly in school; you haven't been putting in any effort. Nothing comes of nothing.  

2."Why are you so depressed today?" "No reason." "There has to be a reason. Nothing comes of nothing."

Bring about (phrasal verb)

●To make something happen, especially to cause changes in a situation.(導致,促成)

Examples:  

1.Major spending is required to bring about substantial improvements in housing.  

2.The 20th century brought about revolutionary changes in our lifestyles.
