The Boao Youth Forum for Asia opened in Hong Kong yesterday.　　Wang Zhimin, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong SAR, delivered a keynote speech entitled: Creating a New Journey for Hong Kong for Young People to Jointly Realise the Chinese Dream.

　　Since the conclusion of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), an upsurge of enthusiasm in publicising and spreading the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress has been sweeping across the country.　　Director Wang Zhimin's speech yesterday is supposed to be part of this campaign.　　Admittedly, to publicise the 19th CPC National Congress in Hong Kong is not an easy task, given the differences between the political systems and even wordings and phrasings in the two places.　　It must be pointed out that Wang Zhimin's speech yesterday is a success, mainly because he is able to use convincing data and facts understandable for Hong Kong people and closely refer to the thinking and interests of Hong Kong people including the younger generations.　　For example, in the "New Thinking New Era" section, Wang Zhimin mentions that: in last five years, our country's overall capability of innovation has remarkably improved and a series of achievements have been made to attract worldwide attention.　　Research and development has achieved major results such as the Tiangong (space station), Jiaolong (deep-sea research submersible), FAST (Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope, nicknamed Tianyan), Wukong satellite (Dark Matter Particle Explorer, DAMPE), Mozi quantum-enabled satellite (Quantum Experiments at Space Scale, QUESS) and China's first large airliner. The "Chinese roads, Chinese bridges, Chinese ports and Chinese networks", one after another miracle-like magnificent engineering projects lift up the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.　　Not long ago, young people from 20 countries along the Belt and Road elected the express railway, Alipay, shared-use bikes and online shopping as China's "new four inventions", suggesting they deeply influence and reshape the whole international community.

　　Hong Kong citizens and young people are no stranger to these achievements of innovative-technology, which are exactly concrete evidence of our country's entry into a "new era for socialism with Chinese characteristics".　　This shows "new era" is not a slogan or empty talk but with visible and tangible concrete results.　　And every Chinese national including Hong Kong people is experiencing this great era and shares the fruits of this great era.

　　Actually, to explain and publicise the 19th CPC National Congress in Hong Kong, especially to the young people, is not a blunt "political task" or "stereotyped" propaganda, but a work of utmost importance and profound significance.　　Not only officials with the Liaison Office must do it, but the SAR Government, pro-establishment groups and personages should also commit themselves to the work.　　Publicising the 19th CPC National Congress is to do the best to enable every Hong Kong citizen and youth to know about the major achievements, opportunities and direction of development in the country at present.　　The 19th CPC National Congress endorses it that, upon entering a new era for socialism with Chinese characteristics, the whole Party and nation must become committed to ultimately realising the two-stage goal of building China into a modern strong country of socialism with Chinese characteristics.　　The party congress also endorse 14 basic strategic measures to attain this goal, and the "one country two systems" principle for the first time is included.　　It is impossible and unthinkable for a Chinese national not to know about such important affairs.　　As long as such strategic measures and the goal are understood and grasped, there will be high morale and strong confidence and there will be genuine realisation of the pride and sense of responsibility felt by one as a Chinese national today.　　In this way, one will boost his patriotism and support for the CPC leadership.　　Otherwise, if one fails to understand the 19th CPC National Congress, one will fall behind and become lost in this new era and new journey for the 1.3 billion Chinese people.

　　As a matter of fact, Hong Kong people has a long-lasting tradition of patriotism.　　Right now, some young people have taken the evil road of antagonism and even got bogged down in "independence for Hong Kong" mainly because they do not learn history and do not understand national circumstance so that they do not know about the ups and downs of the nation and don't treasure what they have got today, let alone feel happy and destined being young Hong Kong Chinese people to have the opportunity to participate in the reconstruction of the country and Hong Kong.　　Consequently, to step up publicity and education of patriotism in Hong Kong and widely publicise the 19th CPC National Congress is really a necessary and urgent task that should not be overlooked. 　　3 November 2017
