President Xi Jinping and his wife came to Hong Kong to attend the Celebratory Ceremony on the 20th Anniversary of the return of Hong Kong to the Motherland & the Fifth-term Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government Inaugural Ceremony and pay an inspection trip, and returned to Beijing on his special plane yesterday. During his three-day visit to Hong Kong, the president delivered important speeches at various occasions. These speeches mark the Hong Kong SAR under "one country two systems" will enter a new stage of development, reach a new starting point and new highs.

During his three-day tour in Hong Kong, President Xi Jinping attended over 20 functions, big or small, including the celebratory ceremony on Hong Kong's return to the Motherland and the fifth-term SAR Government inaugural ceremony, an entertainment performance, meetings with personages from various sectors, a signing ceremony, parading troops, visiting a police academy. At every occasion, the president fully showed the elegant demeanour and charisma of a state leader, and warmly welcomed by the people at present and general public.

During his visit to the West Kowloon Cultural District, there happened to be two costumed kids practicing singing the episode of Picking Up the Hairpin from the Legend of Purple Hairpin, a well-known Cantonese Opera, the president not only stopped to attentively listen to their singing, but also "expertly" noticed that they sang rhythmically and quite "on fleek", praised them and said he was happy to see traditional operas being passed down to young generations.

Likewise, either speaking at the celebratory and inaugural ceremonies or parading troop in summer heat, coming out together with the mighty words he uttered and the slogans he shouted - "Salute to you, comrades!" and "Thanks for your hard work!", are President Xi's deep feelings and care from his heart. In modern times, the Chinese nations had fallen into the abyss of misery due to weak national strength under corrupt feudal rule. In early 1840s, the invasion of a little bit more than 10,000-strong British expeditionary force could have unbelievably forced the Qing government with 800,000 troops to cede territory and pay indemnities, ceding Hong Kong Island to Britain. After the Opium War, China had been again and again defeated by countries far smaller than itself in size and population. Kowloon and "New Territories" had also been forced to leave the embrace of the Motherland. This chapter in the history of China is written with national humiliation and people's anguish. Only after the Communist Party of China (CPC) led the Chinese people to eventually win national independence and liberation through extremely hard struggles, and found the new China, did the Chinese people really stand up from then on probing to open a bright road of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

It is with such a sense of history about national rise or fall and honour or disgrace, and a sense of responsibility for the Chinese nation that President Xi harbours special understanding and care for Hong Kong, for the SAR, for "one country two systems", and for every Hong Kong citizen, and urgently hopes that the "one country two systems" principle could be implemented more comprehensively and more accurately, so that Hong Kong after returning to the Motherland could become more stable and prosperous, Hong Kong people could live a more beautiful life and come closer to this big family of the Motherland.
