Hand sth down (phrasal verb)

●To announce or deliver a (legal) verdict or indictment.

   (宣布,頒布)

Examples:  

1.Tougher sentences are being handed down these days.  

2.The grand jury handed seven indictments down last week.

Buoy (verb)

●To make someone feel happier or more confident about a situation.(鼓舞,鼓勵)

Examples:  

1.They said they felt so buoyed up as they were such a great bunch of students.  

2.She was buoyed (up) by the warm reception her audience gave her.

Run into sth (phrasal verb)

●To experience something unexpectedly, especially something unpleasant.(遭遇,陷入)

Examples:  

1.The center ran into some financial trouble and had to borrow money.  

2.Our project ran into difficulties when we lost a sponsor.

Run counter to sth (idiom)

●If one thing runs counter to another, the first thing is the opposite of the second thing or conflicts with it.(對立,相反)

Examples:  

1.Much of the plan runs counter to European agriculture and environmental policy.  

2.The finding ran counter to all expectations.

Override (verb)

●To use one's authority to reject or cancel (a decision, view, etc.)(推翻,壓倒)

Examples:  

1.The experience of others, therefore, provides no grounds for overriding my judgement.  

2.The president vetoed the bill, and the Senate failed by a single vote to override his veto.
