猶記得，本欄去年在《我是一個膠袋》的文章中提及Metaphor（暗喻）及Simile（明喻）為文章加添色彩。

　　在近日的寫作坊中，我主要教授Reflective Analysis Essay寫作技巧，學生需要閱讀一位知名領袖的自傳後撰寫一篇文章。他們為了把自己的所思所想寫出來而用了大量的代名詞 "I" ， "I learn this ... I learn that ..."及informal English；更有學生運用大量metaphor及smilie手法。

　　有學生看過前蘋果教主Steve Jobs的自傳後，以美麗的孔雀來形容自己，盼望能像教主般擁有絕佳的表達力，以及對社會的影響力。"Just like Steve Jobs, I would like to be a peacock with such social influence and a deep understanding of people.

　　I think peacocks can get involve themselves with humanity nicely and share their beauty. If I am a peacock, I can share my mission and vision with my teammates..."

　　修辭技巧可以潤色文章，但也要看文章的類別（genre）及目的（objective）。我的Reflective Analysis Essay Workshop主要希望學生透過閱讀出色領袖的生活點滴，反思自身的優點和缺點，從而改善領導才能。That is to reflect on the positive and negative aspects of oneself and formulate an action plan to improve his/her leadership skills.

　　即使這是做self reflective analysis essay， 但我希望同學不會忘記這是一篇學術文章。Academic style或許沒有商界那一種的formality，但也不是在社交傳媒上寫的那種語文。譬如："like..."， "I feel ..."，大量的"I"也應該刪除。可以用"For instance"，"Such as..."，"I reckon..."， 甚至運用paraphrasing skill把整個句子重組一次會比較好。

　　運用修辭技巧時，metaphor及simile的使用應適可而止；以孔雀來形容自己，在隨筆寫作時會比較適合呢。
