上月底，筆者讀報得知美國洛杉磯唐人街發生致命斬人案，涉嫌殺人者闖入合勝堂，與其中一名男子發生口角，繼而拔刀向男子的頸部砍過去（"An intruder entered Hop Sing Tong and started to argue with a man. He pulled a knife and slashed him fatally in the neck."）

　　"slash"作動詞用，其中一個意思是砍或割。

　　去年11月，雲南麗江發生了一宗駭人的襲擊案，兩名年輕女子被十多名男子襲擊。其中一名受襲女子指涉案男子先用啤酒樽襲擊她，繼而把她拖到街上，再用破酒樽劃破自己的臉（"One of the victims said that the drunk men attacked her with beer bottles, before she was dragged out on the street and slashed across the face with a broken bottle."）"slash across the face"有劃破臉的意思。

　　"slash"也可解作大幅減少或大幅削減。

　　農曆年前，政府公布了氣候行動藍圖2030+，訂下了減排目標，到2030年，人均碳排放量可由2014年的6.2公噸減至3.3公噸至3.8公噸（"According to the government's latest climate action plan, carbon emissions could be slashed from 6.2 tonnes per person to between 3.3 and 3.8 tonnes by 2030."）

　　美國總統上任後，是否能完全兌現其競選承諾實有待觀察。當中有關大減企業稅項甚為各生意人關注，有意見認為內地的製造業面對國內加稅及工資上升的壓力，美國的減稅計劃對他們來說可能是十分吸引的（"The plan to slash corporate taxes may be a magnet for a lot of Chinese manufacturers."）

　　不論是藍圖還是計劃，且要看看如何落實和達標。
