九月份參加了一個派對，主人家要求各出席嘉賓戴上帽子（hat），實行來一個帽子派對，筆者也湊湊熱鬧，找來派對帽子（party hat）配合一下。

　　「hat」除了可解作帽子外，還可以指身份。

　　美國緬因州的足球隊去年底任命了一名年僅三十歲的新教練，接替退休教練。有報章跟這名新教練做了一個專訪，他表示當教練其實最重要的是跟隊員的關係。以前做統籌工作有不同的任務，現時是一名教練，身份有所不同（As a coordinator, I played a different role. When you are the coach now, you have to put on a different hat.）。「put on a different hat」或「wear a different hat」都有持不同身份的意思。

　　提及足球與帽子，相信大家都聽過帽子戲法（hat trick）。那麼，「hat trick」是什麼？這是一個體育術語，多用於足球，專指在一場球賽中，一名球員連中三元。可以說，這名球員大演帽子戲法。

　　上月西甲美斯就大演帽子戲法，帶領巴塞以4比0贏曼城（Messi scored a hat trick and led Barcelona to a 4-0 victory over Manchester City.）。報章以「Messi racks up hat trick in Barcelona win over Guardiola's Man City」為標題。

　　這陣子，各界都彷彿密切留意誰會參與下一屆特首選舉。上月底退休的法官胡國興宣布參選，報章用「Retired judge Woo Kwok-hing first to officially throw hat in the ring for Hong Kong's 2017 chief executive election」為標題。「throw hat in the ring」的意思是參選，特別是與政治有關的競選活動。且看看還有誰會宣布參選？
