我是一個膠袋/Miss Carol

  最近有學生聽了一首英文流行曲,當中有一句歌詞說自己是一個膠袋;學生聽後有感,寫了一篇隨筆,其中幾句特別有意思:

  I like this song because I was also a plastic bag when I was in primary school. I became a cat after primary school, I could finally do what I want.

  學生借膠袋表達不能自主的情感,他在寫作上使用了「明喻」手法,以具體的生活題材令人產生聯想,幫助讀者理解作者的心思,同時能增添文章的色彩。

  暗喻(Simile)及明喻(Metaphor)是寫作中常用的修辭手法,在暗喻中我們會用「彷彿」(like or as if)來連繫不同的人或事。例如:Life is like a book - some chapters sad, some exciting and some fascinating. Yet, if you never turn the page, you never know what the next chapter holds.

  相反,明喻是直接用不同的人或事去描述對象,就像上述學生形容自己是一個膠袋。另外,這位學生提及自己脫離困在膠袋的生活後立刻變成一隻自由自在的貓,但句與句之間沒有適當的銜接,建議加插supporting sentences,讓上文下理變得有連貫性,舉例:

  I felt that I was trapped in a plastic bag at primary school. A plastic bag is used for containing and transporting goods from places to places. So I was transported to unknown places and people, without choices.

  英文paragraphing(段落寫作結構)上我們有topic sentence (主題句),supporting sentence(支持句)及concluding sentence(結束語)。句子與句子之間要緊扣,要有適當的連繫,這跟中文句子的語法運用也相似。
