•On the whole(idiom) -

Used to say that something is generally true.（總體而言，大致上）

Examples:　　

1.On the whole, I thought the film was pretty good.　　

2.The weather was quite nice on the whole, except for one really rainy day in the middle of the trip.

•Take sth for granted (idiom) –

To assume that something is true without questioning it.（視為理所當然，想當然）

Examples:　　

1.But he took nothing for granted and left little to chance.　　

2.Losing my job taught me never to take anything for granted.

•Do without sth (phrasal verb) -

To live, work, etc., without having something.（沒有…也行）

Examples:　　

1.If you can't afford a new car, you'll just have to do without one.

2.Now that they have a regular income, they should be able to do without any help from us.

•Kick off (phrasal verb) -

If an event, game, series, or discussion kicks off, or is kicked off, it begins.（開始）

Examples:

•Be that as it may (idiom) -

used to introduce a statement that is somehow different from what has just been said.（話雖如此，即便如此）

Examples:　　

1.There has been some improvement in the economy in recent months, but, be that as it may, many people are still looking for work.　　

2.Yes, my daughter made a mistake. But be that as it may, this punishment is much too severe.
